This 2 hour session will provide insights into what POSSE attendees have learned and how it applies to their job, and should be quite revealing for anyone dealing with foss in education.
The Professors Open Source Summer Experience (POSSE, http://teachingopensource.org/index.php/POSSE) is a weeklong bootcamp that immerses professors in open source projects so that those professors can then go on to teach their students to become contributors to open source communities – understanding the culture of contribution rather than just consuming code. A POSSE is running at RIT immediately before FOSSCon; the professors who participated will share their experiences and perspectives as new members of the open source community coming from an academic background, explain their plans for the coming school year, and give recommendations on how open source community members can engage students and academic institutions in their projects. This 2 hour session will provide insights into what POSSE attendees have learned and how it applies to their job, and should be quite revealing for anyone dealing with foss in education.
